2017 Nissan Navara: Convertible Top Malfunction and Warning Light Issue

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Convertible top cannot be opened or closed

Hey folks, I've got a puzzling situation with my 2017 Nissan Navara running a gas engine. Out of the blue, the convertible top has decided not to open or close, and there's a mysterious warning light on the speedometer. I'm thinking maybe it's an issue with the sunroof not being correctly trained, but I'm not sure. Anyone ever run into something similar? Could use a few tips to narrow down the problem here. Also, if anyone's taken this kind of issue to a workshop before, let me know what your experience was like and how they fixed it up. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I actually had a similar problem with my 2015 Nissan Frontier a while back. Just to be clear, I'm no mechanic, but I do know my way around a car a little bit - call it low experience. The problem with my rig was somewhat similar. The sunroof would act up, and a weird warning light would crop up on the speedometer. Anyway, I took my car to my local workshop. They took a look, and after a bit of head scratching, they figured it out. Turned out to be a problem with the vehicle's coding. They sorted it out for me, set me back by a cool 75 Euro. Before I can give any more specifics, I'm gonna need a bit more info about your vehicle. What's the make, model, year? Any recent maintenance work done? Share a bit more, and I might be able to help steer you in the right direction.

Thanks for the insight! It's good to know that you faced something similar and got it sorted out. My ride's a 2017 Navara - did her last service at 43604 KM, haven't faced any issue since. Could definitely be a coding issue like you mentioned, didn't think of that. I'll try to get her checked soon. Appreciate the help!

Hey, no problem at all! Glad to hear that my previous experience could be of some help. Considering your Navara is a 2017 model, it might very well be a similar coding issue. Cars these days being more computer than machine, such quirks are unfortunately rather common. Anyway, it's good to know your last service wasn't too long back. Depending on how familiar you are with your car's electronics, you could try doing a soft reset yourself. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting it - sometimes that's all it takes to iron out such issues. But be aware that this could wipe out some saved settings too. I'd recommend taking it to your local workshop though if you're not too sure. They might be able to diagnose the problem more accurately. Best of luck with getting it fixed. Fingers crossed it's something as simple as a coding problem and nothing too major! Keep us updated on how it goes. Cheers!

What a gem of advice you are! Car's more computer than machine - you couldn't have said it any better. I'm not too savvy with the electronic side of things, so I think I'll heed your advice and head to the local workshop. Wouldn't want to accidentally make things worse by messing with the battery. Crossing my fingers that it's just a coding issue as you suggested. Will definitely keep you posted, cheers for all the help!
