Buttons on multifunction steering wheel without function

Hi there, Crikey, that sounds so much like what I'm going through with my Venga! I'm relieved to hear you managed to sort it all out with the whole clockspring issue. Knowing what it could be gives me some peace of mind. I'm just going to bite the bullet and call my mechanic. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember roughly how much you had to fork out for the repairs - parts and labour included? And have you had any similar problems, or anything else that has cropped up since then? Cheers!
Hey! I reckon you're doing the right thing by getting your steering wheel checked out by your mechanic. Glad to hear my previous experience could help give you a little peace of mind! In response to your question about the cost, it was about 95.00 € for them to sort out the defective cables in the steering wheel. I thought it was pretty fair considering the function it restored, not to mention the peace of mind. And to answer your second question: ever since the mechanic fiddled with it, no more errors with the steering wheel buttons (touch wood!). The thing is working as smoothly as the day I bought the car - not a glitch in sight. So don't sweat it too much. A good mechanic will have you back on the road in no time, steering wheel and all. Good luck!
Hey! That's such a relief to hear! Yeah, you're right. Safety first, right? 95.00 € sounds reasonable enough for the peace of mind it brings. Ain't nothing compared to the potential danger if the issue continues to escalate! Glad to hear you've had no more problems with the steering wheel once your mechanic got it sorted. Gives me a little more confidence in getting mine fixed. It's time to bridge over my mechanics past kerfuffle and give them a ring. Thanks for sharing your experience—the advice and support really means a lot! Take care!
Hey! Sounds very similar to what I faced with my 2014 Kia Soul. My steering wheel buttons started acting weird. Initially, they worked sporadically, then eventually they stopped responding altogether. Took it to my garage and turns out the problem was the clockspring. That's the part that allows electronics in the steering wheel (like your horn, airbags, and the buttons) to connect with the rest of the car. So, definitely not a trivial issue considering it can knock out important safety features. The mechanic managed to replace the clockspring without much trouble. It did take a few hours of labor but post-repair everything was back to normal. So don't hesitate to get it checked out. Better safe than sorry, right? All the best!
