2017 Kia Niro Overheating Issue with Low Coolant and Unusual Dash Lights

Check engine light on

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Overheating

Coolant level low

Hey! I've got a 2017 Kia Niro, gas engine, with about 35K km on it. Recently, it's been running hot, coolant's low, and getting unusual dash lights (incl. that freaky check engine one). I'm thinkin' it's some kind of message error between control devices, but I'm gun-shy about mechanics since a bad experience last time. Anyone ever run into this issue or have advice about dealing with the mechanic? Cheers!

Hey, absolutely hear you on the suspicious mechanic front. Had a similar issue with my 2014 Kia Optima around the 30K mark. Turned out to be a defective cable connection/plug of the water pump. It was a real pain, mind you - the control unit was getting mixed signals causing erratic dash lights, just like you're seeing on your Niro. Really wasn’t expecting that, but after sorting it out, everything got back to normal, no more unusual lights or overheating. Maybe have your mechanic give that a look. Hope it helps!

Hey there! Wow, I'm dealing with a similar issue on my Niro right now. Totally feel your pain about the engine warning lights - they freak me out, too! I'm glad to hear that you managed to sort out your problem. If you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you for the fix? Also, has anything else popped up unexpectedly since then? Cheers!

Hey, of course, no worries at all. I had to shell out around 155.00 € for that cable connection/plug of the water pump fix. Pricey stuff, I know, but totally worth it. Since then, touch wood, no nasty surprises. Once the mechanic dealt with the issue, that "message error between control devices" stuff was sorted for good, no more of that panic-inducing check engine light. So yeah, running smooth since then. Good luck with your Niro, hope you sort it out with little fuss!

Heys, thanks for the responses! Hearing your experiences is putting my mind at ease a bit. I'll be sure to mention the water pump cable angle as a potential culprit. The price isn't as bad as I feared, especially if it means ditching those spooky dash lights for good. Appreciate your guidance, guys. I'll let you know how my visit to the mechanic goes. Fingers crossed it'll run smooth like yours. Cheers!
