Engine shuts off by itself

Hey! I'm getting a bit worrisome with my 2016 Nissan Armada, Gasoline, racked up about 85147 KM. It's acting up lately with some worrying signs. Black smoke puffing out on acceleration, engine light blinking, it scares me sometimes when the engine turns off on its own, and it's been experiencing power loss too. Additionally, it's jerking while accelerating, idling is rough and it's eating up more fuel than before. I kinda suspect the air mass sensor might be the issue. Has anyone encountered similar issues? How did your mechanic diagnose and fix it? Hope to hear some of your experiences. Cheers!

Hey there, I've got a 2013 Nissan Patrol and had a pretty similar issue to what you're describing. That jerking, black smoke, and excessive fuel consumption sound just like what I experienced. It's easy to get worried because the symptoms are quite noticeable, but it seems like you're on the right track suspecting the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. When I took my car to the garage, they did a computerized diagnostic test and confirmed my suspicion about the MAF sensor. The sensor helps your car to figure out the right blend of air and fuel for efficient combustion. If it's malfunctioning, your engine can't make the right adjustments, hence the smoke and rough idling. Once they figured out it was the MAF sensor, they replaced it with a new one. To be honest, it might seem serious because of how your car's acting up, but it's not as bad as it seems. Sure, it's critical to get it fixed as it can really mess up your fuel consumption and overall engine efficiency but, thankfully, replacing it usually sorts the issues right out. Remember to get your car checked out as soon as possible. It's easier to fix it now than to wait for the issue to potentially cause other, more serious problems down the road. To avoid any issues like those I'd advise you to immediately visit a garage. Stay safe on the roads. Good luck with your ride!

Hey! Reading your experience puts me a bit at ease. I've got a 2015 Armada facing some similar trouble signs. Seems like these Nissans have a knack for MAF sensor problems. I'm relieved to hear it's not as serious as my panicking brain had me believe. Can you remind me how much the fix set you back, if you don't mind me asking? And has that solved the problem ever since, or has anything else popped up out of the blue? Thanks! Hope your Nissan's been smooth sailing since then.

Hey there, Good to see you're tackling the issue head on! It cost me a decent 415.00 € to get the Mass Air Flow sensor defect remedied. I know that's quite the sum, but it's absolutely worth it considering it had my Nissan running smooth as butter afterwards. Since I had the MAF sensor swapped out, those scary symptoms have vanished. No more unusual engine cutoffs, no more black smoke, and the fuel consumption has gone back to normal. So in my case, fixing that defect did the trick and there's been no more issues rearing their ugly head since then. Rest easy. Your ride should be back in peak condition once that air mass sensor is taken care of. Keep the rubber side down and good luck!

Cheers, mates, for sharing your experiences and giving some advice. It sure takes the edge off knowing that some of you experienced a similar issue and fixing it solved the problem long term. Feels like a dodged bullet. I'm planning to take my Armada in to get that diagnostic test and then the MAF sensor replacement. Yeah, it's going to pinch a bit to fork over those €400, but if it sorts out all these frustrating problems, it's worth it. Thanks again for your help, fellas. Wish me luck with my Armada! Stay alert out there on the roads. Have a good one!
