2015 Kia Venga Struggling to Start with Potential Engine Control Issues

Dim or flickering lights

Engine hard to start

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey! I'm a bit stuck here with my 2015 Kia Venga, it's got about 181K on her. Lately, I've been having trouble getting her to start, and the battery seems to be barely hanging on during the start-up. I've also noticed some lights being a bit dim or flickering. Last time I took her to the garage, it wasn't exactly a great experience, so before I go down there again, I wanted to check if anyone here has faced something similar? I'm suspecting it's something related to the engine control. If it's that or something else, I'd love to hear about your experience dealing with it and your mechanic. Cheers.

Hey there, I feel your pain. I own a 2012 Kia Forte and had a similar issue not too long ago. I was in the same boat, my car was facing trouble to start and lights would occasionally flicker, thought it had something to do with the engine control as well. But it turned out to be the battery. Yep, the battery voltage was too low which caused all these issues. It wasn't a catastrophic problem, but definitely not something you should overlook. After taking my car to the garage, the guys over there checked it out thoroughly. They ended up replacing the battery, cleaning up the battery terminals, and also checked the alternator charging system just to cover all bases. Hope this helps you out a bit. Best to get it checked as soon as you can. Good luck!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your story, it's given me a bit of relief. I was starting to think it was something major. Turns out, simple age-old issue of the battery might just be the culprit! Definitely going to get it looked at ASAP. By the way, can you recall how deep you had to reach into your wallet for fixing this? And has anything else popped up since then? Curious to know how well your Forte has held up after you got this sorted. Cheers!

Hey there, Definitely a relief, isn't it? Aging can really get to our cars, much like us humans. Now, about the price, it did lighten my wallet by 290.00 €, mainly for replacing the battery and sprucing up the entire charging system. Not exactly pocket change, but could've been worse if the condition deteriorated. So, don't sleep on this! As for how well my trusty old Kia Forte has been doing after the fix: Honestly, it's been running smoothly. Remember the suspect - "engine control"? Turned out, the mechanic was really thorough and did notice a minor fault there. I got it corrected in the same visit, and since then, it's been smoother than a hot knife through butter! Can't complain really. Hope your Venga gets back to her peak form soon. Good luck!

Hi there, You got it right on the money! Age truly does catch up with all of us at some point, doesn't it? Your input really helps put things into perspective for me, though. So, 290.00 €, huh? More than what I was hoping to part with, but I guess we do have to pay the price for maintenance sometimes. As you said, better now than a potential fortune later. Hearing that your Forte is running without a hitch is really encouraging—hoping my Venga follows suit. In fact, I'll make sure to keep an eye out for any other minor issues that might creep up, as you found with your engine control. Really appreciate your help with this. I'm off to the garage now, fingers crossed. Cheers. And good luck with your Kia Forte in the future!
