Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I'm having a bit of bother with my 2015 Kia Sportage, about 53,570 KM on it, running on gas. Keeps having this funky issue with the lock/unlock function and the key fob acting weird. There's even this pesky warning light shining on my speedometer (nobody likes unwanted dash lights, right?). I'm thinking it might be the ignition key battery being kaput, but I'm no expert. Had a bit of a rough run-in with a mechanic last time around, no wish to repeat that! Has anyone faced a similar problem before? How did your mechanic handle it? Grateful for any shared experiences or advice, thanks in advance!

Hey there looks like we're driving the same line of cars! I have a 2012 Kia Sorento and faced the same problem about a year back. Key fob was acting all funky, wouldn't lock/unlock consistently and that irritating warning light drove me crazy. Turned out to be simple enough - the battery in the key was, indeed, drained and needed replacement. I went to the garage, they took one look at my key fob, tested it, and determined the battery was about to give up the ghost. It wasn't a serious issue at all, just a minor inconvenience. No sophisticated tools required, my mechanic simply replaced the battery. They then reset the car's system to recognize the new key, and all was good. Ain't no biggie as long as you take care of it pronto! Good luck with yours!

Hey there! Brilliant to know someone else has had the same issue, and with a sorta sibling model to my Sportage too. So it was just the key battery running low, huh? That's a relief to hear. Can you sorta recollect what it ended up costing you to replace the battery in the key fob and the system reset? I'm trying to figure out what sort of a hole it's going to blow in my wallet. Also, has your key fob been working well since the change or have you noticed any other odd things happening? Thanks again for shedding light on this.

Hey! Good to see the info was a bit of help. Well, about the cost, didn't exactly cost me an arm and a leg. They billed me just 37.5€ for replacing the battery and resetting the system. Not too crazy, right? As for the post-fix situation, my key fob's been behaving quite honorably since that day at the mechanics. The ignition key battery issue was indeed the culprit, and taking care of it snuffed out all the problems I was facing. So do make it quick to a competent mechanic, and you should be good to go. Happy driving!

Hey, this is excellent news! Thanks for the quick response. The cost seems pretty reasonable, honestly and a lot less head-scratching than I thought it would be. Good to know that it's a one-time fix too, was worried there would be recurring issues. I'll definitely take your advice and get it to a mechanic soon. Here's hoping my key fob also starts behaving itself post the fix! You've been a massive help. Cheers and happy driving to you too!
