Hey there! your description gives me goosebumps as it's so damn similar to what's happening to my Ray. It's reassuring yet a bit nerve-racking knowing it might be the whole air valve and pump situation. Do you remember how much this whole operation set you back? My mechanic has a tendency to inflate prices, which I wouldn't want to stomach again. Also, has anything else cropped up related to this issue since your repair job? Thanks for the help and heads up. Appreciate you sharing your experience. Happy motoring!
Hey! Ah, I can completely feel your current situation. That check engine light is a classic heart-stopper, ain't it? Particularly if you've got a bit of a shark for a mechanic. In regards to your question about the damage to my pocketbook, I remember it pretty well - it was, after all, a chunky €95. That covered fixing the lousy cable/plug connection between the secondary air valve and secondary air pump. Gotta admit it was a bit of a hit, especially since it was unexpected. But considering the improvement in fuel efficiency post-fix, I suppose it was worth coughing up. And to your next question, since the mechanic did their thing, there have been no resurgence of the same issue - the faulty air valve deal was totally sorted out. Peace of mind there, dude! So hang tight. Here's hoping your mechanic doesn't try to pull a fast one on you this time. Keep us updated on how it all goes. Safe travels!
Hey! Ahh, €95... a bitter pill to swallow but for peace of mind and fuel efficiency... it's just about worth it. I'm glad to hear the issue hasn't flared up again for you, gives me that much-needed hope. Thanks a ton for taking the time to share all that info. It's definitely given me a better idea of what I'm in for. Going to get Ray checked up first thing tomorrow, wish me luck! Will report back here on how things go. Thanks again and happy driving!
Hey! Your symptoms sound pretty darn familiar to me. I've got a 2017 Kia Soul, and I experienced something very similar. Check engine light came on, fuel consumption skyrocketed, and that nasty emissions smell... it was no picnic! Turned out the issue was just as you suspected - cable/plug connection to the secondary air valve and secondary air pump was defective. Let me tell you it was no small issue. The level of inefficiency it caused, clearly seen in horrible fuel consumption was genuinely surprising. At the garage, they fixed the faulty connections but also had to replace the pump. It was fried due to continuous inefficient running. They also ended up replacing the air valve. It sounds dreadful, but once the work was completed, my Soul was purring again like a satisfied kitten. Your Kia Ray might need that kind of treatment too. Best of luck with it and hope your mechanic does a better job this time. Keep us posted! Safe driving to you too!
