2013 Lexus IS Hybrid Engine and Electrical Issues: Seeking Advice

Weird engine noise

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Longer cold start time

Car won't start

Hey! I'm having some trouble with my 2013 Lexus IS Hybrid with roughly 103,897 KM on it. For some reason, the engine's taking ages to warm up and sometimes won't start at all. Plus, it's making a strange noise when it does eventally fire up and the battery seems weaker than usual. Even the interior lights are dimming or flickering unpredictably, and there's a warning light glowing on the speedo. Has anyone encountered these issues before? Last time, I had a terrible experience with my mechanic, so would appreciate your thoughts or advice before heading back to a garage. Can anyone suggest what might be causing the issue or share their experiences? Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I experienced something pretty similar with my own 2013 Lexus IS Hybrid a while back. Based on your symptoms, this could really be a problem with your starter motor. The difficulty starting the engine, the weird noises, the flickering lights, and the warning light are all tell-tale signs. When I had my issues, the mechanics ended up having to swap out the entire starter motor after they confirmed it was defective. Guess it was worn out with the miles I'd clocked on my motor. It wasn't something to brush off as it was interfering with not just the engine operation, but the overall electrical system. Don't let the problem linger if it is indeed the same as mine. The longer you go on with a faulty starter, the higher the risk of other linked parts getting affected. I'd suggest getting your car in right away to ensure it's not something more serious. Hope this helps you out, and best of luck with your motor!

Hey! Wow, sounds like you had quite a journey with your Lexus. It actually kinda sets my mind at ease knowing that somebody else went through it and came out the other side in one piece! The symptoms you've described definitely match mine... Guess this starter motor's the culprit, after all. Before I head out and get the car checked, do you remember how much you forked over to get your starter motor replaced? Just so I have a rough idea, y'know? And since getting it fixed, anything else popped up, or has your IS been behaving itself? Thanks a bunch for sharing your experiences! Really saved me a headache.

Hey again, I can totally get wanting to have an idea of what you might be in for cost-wise. For my Lexus, replacing the defective starter motor set me back about 565€. Felt it in the pocket, no doubt! But weighing it against the peace of mind it gave me, I'd say it was worth every penny. Since getting the starter motor fixed, I've fortunately not had any more problems with the car starting. She's been behaving like a dream, really! It felt like my beauty got a breath of fresh air after the fix. Hope this gives you some comfort. Good luck with the repair – and don’t worry too much, your ride will be back to its old self in no time. Peace out!

Hi again, Thanks for the quick response and for providing an estimate. 565€, yikes! But, if it fixes the problem then it is what it is, money well spent I suppose. As they say, you gotta pay to play, right? It's good to hear that your ride's performing well after getting it sorted - that's really reassuring. Thanks for your support. Yep, no time like the present to get her sorted and back on the roads. I’ll swing by the garage first thing tomorrow. Finger crossed everything goes smooth. Will keep you guys posted. Cheers!
