2012 Nissan Latio Fails to Start: Potential Vehicle Lock Malfunction

Car won't start

Vehicle starts briefly and goes out again

Hey folks! Need some help with my 2012 Nissan Latio, running on a gasoline engine with about 105,461 KM on it. Been having an issue where it won't start or starts for a second and dies right after, seems like some vehicle lock malfunction issue. Anybody faced something similar and got any advice to share? Had a rough go with the mechanic last time and I'm trying to gather as much info as possible before going back. Appreciate your input!

Hey there! Ran into a similar issue with my 2009 Nissan Sentra last year. Sounds like what you're experiencing might have to do with the key programming. My Nissan was pulling the same stunts - starting and then dying almost immediately. It wasn't any mechanical malfunction, turns out the car's computer wasn't recognizing the key as a valid one. It was kind of serious because until it was fixed, my car was pretty much undrivable. Went down to my local garage and the tech there connected something called a diagnostic tool to check error codes in the computer. Result showed incorrect key programming. They had to clear the old keys from the car's computer and program the keys again. It was a day-long job, but once done, no issues with starting the car! What I learned was that even if your key has no physical damage, the programming can get messed up and cause such situations. Hope this helps you out. Best to get it checked ASAP. Cheers!

Yo! Thanks for the heads up! Seems like your experience with your Sentra is pretty much in line with what's happening to my Latio. Glad to hear that it's not some crazy mechanical problem. This key programming thing sounds like something I should definitely look into. By the way, do you remember how much you had to shell out for getting this fixed - the whole diagnostic and reprogramming jazz? Also, after sorting this out, did you run into any other problems related to this, or was it all smooth sailing from there on? Cheers!

Hey! Yeah, the problem was pretty much limited to the key programming and once that was sorted, it was back to smooth journeys for me. I'll confess, it was a real bummer when my Sentra played dumb, starting and dying but I'm glad that it was nothing more serious. About the cost, it set me back about 45€. Not exactly pennies, but considering my car was practically out of action before, it was well worth it, you know? And no more issues of the same sort so far. After the mechanic worked the magic, the vehicle lock malfunction you're griping about was history for me. So, my advice is, let the mechanic take a gander at it, and your Nissan Latio should be back on track soon. Safe driving, dude!

Hey there! Really appreciate you shedding some light on this - especially the cost info, it's good to know what ballpark I'm in. Makes me feel a bit relieved knowing that what I'm dealing with is a common problem and can be sorted without any hassle. 45€ doesn't sound too terrible, especially if it means my Latio starts behaving again! I'd been worrying about some nasty engine repair job. And it's great to hear you've had no repeat issues - really puts my mind at ease. I'll book a slot with my mechanic this week and get this key programming issue resolved. Hopefully, it will be the end of the whole vehicle lock malfunction drama for me as well! Can't thank you enough, dude. Safe driving to you too! Cheers!
