2012 Lexus LFA Alarm System Issues and Battery Weakness During Start-Up: Seeking Troubleshooting Tips and Workshop Solutions

Alarm system malfunctions

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey fellow gearheads, got a bit of a pickle here. My 2012 Lexus LFA is giving me some trouble. Recently, the alarm system has been acting up, and the battery seems to be weak during engine start-up. I'm suspecting the anti-theft alarm might be causing the issue, but I can't say for sure. Anyone out there had a similar experience or can share any troubleshooting tips they might've found useful for this kind of problem? I'm particularly interested to know how you got it sorted out at the workshop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had a similar problem with my 2011 Lexus LFA about a year ago. Now I'm no mechanic (just got some experience), but here's what worked for me. I took my car to the local workshop where they found that it was indeed the alarm system messing up. They recoded my system to activate optical locking, which solved the problem. I remember the cost being reasonable, just around 45€. But of course, individual cases might not be the same. Could you share some more info about your car's issue? Like, do you get any specific error codes? Any recurring patterns you've noticed? That would really help in giving you more tailored advice. Good luck with your car!

Hey, appreciate your insight! I will certainly check with my workshop about the optical locking fix. As for error codes, there aren't any showing up on the onboard diagnostics. The only dependable pattern I can say is that it mostly occurs in the morning start-ups. And, yes, my mileage is around 124223 KM, with the last service done just a few months back. Maybe next service time, I'll ask them to have a further look into this alarm issue. Thanks for the help, dude!

Hey, no problem! Morning start-up issues, eh? That's something I've encountered before as well! In my case, it turned out to be a weak battery not holding enough charge to both start the car and power the alarm system. Hence, the alarm would sometimes go haywire trying to draw power. When getting your car checked, you might want to consider having them test your battery's health too. If it's original and you've driven 124223 KM, it could be nearing the end of its life. Fingers crossed this can help nail the root cause for you. Catch you later and best of luck with the fixing!

Wow, I hadn't even thought about the battery potentially causing the issue. Actually, it is the original battery, so you might be on to something here. For sure, I'll ask them to do a check on that as well. This turned out to be a really enlightening conversation. Thanks a bunch once again for sharing your experience and advice! Hopefully, I can get my beauty up and running smoothly again soon. Catch ya later!
