2011 Hyundai Grandeur Gasoline Engine Issues: Check Engine Light, Reduced Power, Shaky Operation, and Stalling

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Shaking while idling

Unsteady engine

Stalling while idling

Hey everybody, I'm having a weird issue with my 2011 Hyundai Grandeur running a Gasoline engine. Recently, it's showing a lit check engine light, feels like less engine power, shaky and unstable engine, plus it's jerking when I'm stepping on the gas - really annoying. It's even stalled a few times at idle. I'm suspecting something's up with the tank ventilation system. Has anyone faced this type of problem before? Would love to hear your workshop experiences and solutions. Cheers.

Hey there! This sounds like a similar issue I faced with my 2009 Hyundai Sonata, both of us driving nifty Hyundai machines, huh? I'd say I have some experience dealing with cars - not an expert, but not totally clueless either. Saw these troubling symptoms on my whip and took it to my local workshop. They found out it was something to do with the vent hoses - a real tricky issue. They had to add new hoses, which set me back by 175€, go figure. But the good news is, it fully solved the problem. But hey, can you tell more about your vehicle's history? Like recent mechanic visits, last service, etc? It could help to pinpoint the issue. Hope your ride gets up and running smoothly soon! Cheers!

Hey! Cheers for sharing your experience, it's really helpful! It does seem like my Grandeur's symptoms match up to what you described about your Sonata. To answer your question, my ride just clocked 65667 KM and the last service was done without any major red flags right before the pesky problem started occurring. If adding new vent hoses worked for you, then maybe it's worth giving it a shot. I'll try to get into a workshop soon and see if they can sort it out. Thanks again for your advice! Fingers crossed, it'll start performing well again.

No problem! Glad to hear my previous experience could be of some help. You know, our Hyundai rides can indeed show such symptoms due to problems with the tank venting system. For the mileage your Grandeur has clocked, it's not unusual for some parts to need replacing, including vent hoses. If you haven't replaced these before, it could be just the time to do so. The good thing is, you noticed the problem early, so the damage, if any, should be minimal. But remember, although the symptoms match, the real cause could be something totally different. Cars are complex, and many parts interconnect. So, don't take my word as the only source of truth - always best to hear from the professionals. Keep us posted about what the workshop guys have to say. I'm no mechanic, but I'm all too familiar with these issues, so hopefully my advice points you in the right direction! Good luck and let's hope for some smooth sailing (or driving, in this case) ahead! Cheers!

Hey, appreciate your comprehensive respond! You're spot on, these machines can be a bit like puzzles sometimes, even with similar symptoms, the problem can often wind up being something completely different. I've actually never replaced the vent hoses before, so that's definitely a possibility. I'll definitely head over to a workshop soon and see what they can diagnose. And no worries, your advice has been really valuable and has given me a starting point for discussion with the mechanics. I'll make sure to keep you all posted on the progress. Thanks again for your help, really hope it gets rectified soon. Cheers!
