2010 VW Transporter Electrical Malfunction: Seeking Advice and Experiences

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Navigationssystem is not working

General electric malfunction

Hey! I've got an issue with my 2010 VW Transporter, a diesel beast that's clocked up 251,258 KM mileage. The whole electrical system's gone haywire; warning light on the speedo, dead nav system and a general electronic malfunction. Got a hunch it could be something with the Flex-Ray bus. Last time I took the van to a mechanic, it was a nightmare, so a bit nervous about doing that again. Anyone else encounter this sort of issue? What was your experience at the mechanic? Would really appreciate your thoughts or any advice. Cheers.

Hey there, I had a pretty similar issue with my 2013 VW Tiguan, not as many kilometers on the clock but still a fair bit. My electrics were going nuts and throwing out all kinds of weird signals. First thought it was the car battery but turns out it was the cable connection that had some issues. Had a complete check of the wiring systems and found the culprit; the main plug connecting to the control unit was shot. Honestly, it was quite a serious issue 'cause the connection point was corroded and the cable had some minor wear and tear. They literally had to strip out parts of the interior to reach the location. The garage had to replace the entire cable and the plug connector attached to it. So, I reckon you might have something similar with your Transporter. It was a right pain but once they sorted it, things went back to normal. Hope that gives you an idea of what you might be dealing with. Good luck!

Hey! That sure does sound a lot like the nightmare I'm facing. Damn, I was hoping it's not a major issue. But from what you're saying, looks like it might be the wiring after all. Last time handling a large repair was an absolute bother, but can't let the old girl suffer, right? I'm curious though - how much did it set you back to get everything fixed? And did any other electrical problems pop up afterwards? Hopefully nothing else for you. Anyway, appreciate the input. Cheers!

Hey again, Well, let me tell you, it did cost a bit, but not as bad as it could've been. To sort out the mess with the cable and plug connection it was about 155.00 €, which was pretty reasonable if you ask me. And about your other question, once I got that sorted out, I haven't had any major issues with the electrics since then. In fact, after I got the Flex-Ray bus error fixed, she's been running smooth as silk. Probably the best thing I did for the old girl yet. Sure, it seems a bit daunting, but trust me, it's worth nipping the issue in the bud before the whole thing goes belly-up. Hope this eases your mind, bud. Best of luck with it!

Hey again, Puts me somewhat at ease knowing it's not necessarily going to break the bank. I guess 155.00 € is a bit steep, but then again, given the menace this issue's been, sounds worthwhile in the long run. Honestly, the mileage I've got on mine, it'll need a good going-over in any case. And if yours is running smooth post the fix, gives me hope. The joy of having no warning lights or malfunctions will be a relief unto itself. Thanks a lot for explaining all of this. I was feeling quite stressed-out, but your experience has given me a clearer direction on how to tackle this. I'll take your advice and sort it out sooner rather than later. Cheers for the help!
