Hey! Thanks heaps for pointing me in the right direction. Your experience with the older Mazda Atenza is certainly a pointer. That Lambda sensor issue sounds quite the ordeal but if it's the culprit, have to deal with it, can't be ignoring serious damage to the cat-converter or the engine. That'd be a far expensive pain in the neck for sure. Say, do you remember what damage did it make on your wallet to get that pesky Lambda sensor replaced? Also, anything else cropped up since then, or the old beast behaving herself after the sensor fix? Thanks again! Cheers!
Hey there, No sweat, happy to help a fellow Mazda lover! As you said, ignoring it could lead to even more costly problems – and nobody wants those kinda headaches, right? About the cost, yeah, fixing the Lambda sensor did set me back a fiver - it was 375.00 € to be exact. But hey, the peace of mind knowing it's taken care of? Worth every cent, in my opinion. Everything I dropped coin on was to handle the grungy Ceramic inside the sensor that got dirty and needed a clean-out. Since that little adventure, I've not had any other major problems (touch wood!). Once the sensor was sorted, the old girl's been running like a dream - no more engine light, no more coughing up smoke, and the fuel consumption's back to normal. Bottom line it was the right call. So best of luck getting your lady sorted! Cheers!
Hey! I can't thank you enough for sharing your insights. The way you painted the whole ordeal really helps. Just thinking about the peace of mind I'll get after the fix is motivating me to not delay the appointment with the mechanic. 375.00 € does sound like a chunk, but if it helps the old girl get her groove back with no engine light, reduced smoke, and normal fuel consumption, it will likely save me money down the line. Prevention surely is better than cure, eh? So, looks like my weekend is booked with the mechanic now. Fingers crossed for all to be sorted soon. Thanks for your time and experienced advice, really appreciate it! Cheers!
Hey! Your hunch about the Lambda sensor could be spot on, I reckon. Had a very similar issue on my 2007 Mazda Atenza not so long ago. Beast was chugging black smoke like nobody's business and the power was all over the shop, plus the check engine light was bugging me no end. Turned out the Ceramic inside the Lambda sensor got all gunked up. The symptoms you're describing, like the high consumption, rough idling, and jerky acceleration, all point towards a clogged up Lambda sensor. It checks out that the sensor might be sending the incorrect info to the engine control unit causing the fuel mix to be off and triggering all the other problems you're experiencing. Don't mean to frighten you, but this situation was a bit of a pickle. Required the mechanic to remove the sensor to clean it. In my case, it was easier for them to replace it entirely, given the wear and damage over time. Thing is, if left unattended, it could lead to some serious issues down the line, like damaging the catalytic converter or messing up your engine performance big time. better book an appointment with your mechanic early. The sooner, the better, I'd say. Good luck!
