2008 Nissan Quest Overheating Issue with Possible Coolant Pump Malfunction

Check engine light on

Overheating

Hey folks, Need some help here… Been having an issue with my 2008 Nissan Quest - gasoline engine with around 20,590KM on the clock. The engine's been running hot and the check engine light's flicked on. After my last visit to the mechanic left a bad taste, I’m suspecting an issue with the coolant pump not working as it should. Anyone had similar experiences? How did you deal with it and was your mechanic able to sort it out? Would love to get your thoughts on this before I head into another mechanic mess. Cheers!

Hey, Funny you'd mention that, I had pretty much the same deal going on with my 2005 Nissan Maxima not too long ago. I was getting the same symptoms; overheating, check engine light, the works. Thought it might have been a thermostat issue at first, but no dice. Turned out it was the cable on the pump/control unit that was defective. The signal just wasn't getting through so it was like having no coolant pump at all. Fairly serious issue as you can imagine, since the engine could've overheated big time without the coolant flowing properly. Luckily my mechanic spotted it when scanning the error codes from the check engine light. Fixing it required replacing that faulty cable and boom! Back in business. No strange noises or warning lights since then. So, definitely worth having it looked at . It might just be a cable issue like in my case. Best of luck with it!

Hey there, Wow! Your situation sounds eerily similar to mine. Glad to hear that your Maxima is back to purring now. Your experience with the faulty cable kind of confirms my suspicion about this whole coolant pump ordeal. But hey, just trying to sidestep any 'meltdowns', (if you know what I mean). Out of curiosity, do you happen to remember what you shelled out for that cable replacement? And apart from things running smoothly now, have you come across any other problems since getting it fixed? Fingers crossed for you and your Maxima! Cheers.

Hey, Yes, your problem indeed struck a chord with mine. Here's hoping it's a similar simple fix for your Nissan Quest as well. About the expenditure on fixing the cable, it cost me around 220€. A bit of a pinch to the pocket, but in the grand scheme of things, getting that 'Coolant pump function limited' issue fixed without any further mechanical debacles was absolutely worth it. Since that fix, my Maxima's been running just fine - fingers crossed and touch wood! Haven't run into any other problems or stumbling blocks since the repair. So I'd definitely recommend you get your suspected coolant pump issue checked out. Your Nissan might well be just a cable replacement away from the soothing purr of a healthy engine! Keep your chin up!

Hey! Thanks for going into detail with your response, really appreciate the effort. Your costs don't sound half bad if it means I'm getting rid of that pesky problem. Knowing that there haven't been any nasty side effects since your repair gives me confidence too! My Nissan and I appreciate the advice, encouragement, and help from your side. I'll get in touch with my mechanic ASAP, have them look at the coolant pump and the cables. Fingers crossed it's just as straightforward as your Maxima's situation. Hope it's simple enough to sort out without burning a significant hole in my pocket. Will keep my chin up! Thanks again for the help. Cheers!
