2008 Dacia Sandero Exhibiting Potential Fuel Pump Symptoms: Seeking Advice and Reliable Mechanic Recommendations

Car won't start

Jerking on acceleration

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Longer cold start time

Loss of engine power

Hey everyone! I have a 2008 Dacia Sandero, Gasoline engine, with a 137,945 KM mileage. Recently, I've been dealing with some pretty sketchy symptoms - the check engine light is on, the engine switches off unusually, starts up harder when cold, and loses power with an unsteady running. I've also noticed some jerking when accelerating and sometimes the car won't start at all. My hunch is that it could be a fuel pump problem. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? Any insights about the potential issue, or your experiences in getting this sorted at the mechanic, would be super helpful. My last mechanic experience wasn't great, so finding a reliable one is important to me. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Cheers.

Hey, just read about your Dacia Sandero giving you troubles. it reminds me of a similar problem I had with my 2011 Dacia Logan not long ago. The symptoms you're describing do sound familiar, especially the engine acting up and the check engine light coming on. Turns out, there were incorrect software values for the fuel pump on my Logan. Now, I'm no mechanic, but apparently, this can make the engine act all sorts of weird - including hard starting and losing power. So, got the garage guys to run a full diagnosis to confirm it. They needed to update the fuel pump software to fix the issue. It wasn't a quick fix as it took a couple of days, so definitely was a bit of an inconvenience. So it definitely does look like some serious stuff, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. A decent mechanic should be able to sort it out for you. My advice would be to get it checked out as soon as you can before the situation gets worse. Hope it helps! Cheers!

Hi there! Thanks for the advice - your experience with your Logan sounds spot on with the issues I've been having with my Sandero. It's a bit of a relief to know that fuel pump software could be the culprit and it's manageable with an update. Sorry if I'm being a bit nosy, but do you remember how much it cost you to get the software update? I'm trying to budget for this unexpected problem. Also, have you had any more issues crop up with your Logan since the fix? I'm interested to know how it’s been holding up since then. Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Hey there, no worries about being nosy, knowing the costs is part of the game! As for the cost of the fix, it turned out to be around 45€ for the software update of the fuel pump. Not too steep and definitely worth it if it fixes the issue. And now that you ask, ever since I've had that fuel pump defect sorted, the Logan has been behaving like a dream, honestly. No further issues to report, knock on wood. It's like giving your car a new lease on life! The mechanic that handled the situation did a fantastic job, so I'd highly recommend finding a reliable one too. Hope this eases your worries a bit! Best of luck with your Sandero. Cheers!

Wow, that's such a relief to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience, it's given me a much clearer picture of what to expect. I was bracing for a much higher cost, so 45€ for the software update doesn't sound bad at all. Also, it's reassuring to know your Logan is running smoothly after the fix. I sincerely hope the software update is all my Sandero needs to get back to its old self. Following your advice, I'll make sure I find a reliable mechanic this time. Thanks again for your help! Take Care. Cheers!
