2004 Fiat Panda's Heated Windows Malfunction - Potential Exterior Mirror Heating Issue

Fault stored

Heated windows without function

Hey! I've got a bit of a worrying situation with my ol' trusty 2004 Fiat Panda, gasoline engine with a 116,672 km on it. My heated windows are kaput and I got a stored fault message. I reckon it might be an exterior mirror heating issue - has this ever happened to anyone else? Could use some advice here, especially after a less-than-stellar encounter with my last mechanic. Cheers!

Hey! I own a very similar car, 2007 Fiat Punto. I faced a similar issue not too long ago - turned out, it was indeed an exterior mirror heating problem. In my case, there were two issues - the cable connection to the mirror was defective and the plug connection on the mirror glass itself was oxidized. To fix it, it wasn't an overly serious job, but it did need some hands-on time at the garage. Firstly, the mechanic checked the continuity of the cable and noticed the fault. They had to replace that whole thing. To deal with the oxidation issue, they did some cleaning and applied an anti-oxidation compound to prevent future issues. Took a day or two for the whole thing to be sorted. In all, it's technically a bit of a job, but definitely not something too serious. So, I'd say drive safe and bring it up next time when you go to a good mechanic. Hope this helps!

Hey there! Love that you were able to resolve the mirror heating issue with your Punto. I've got a similar issue with my Panda's heated windows and I'm suspecting it's the same exterior mirror heating problem. Just out of curiosity, can you recall how much the whole process set you back? And have you stumbled upon any other heating related issues since you got it fixed? Thanks a bunch!

Hey! Yeah, I remember how much it stung the pocket. It was around 155 Euro to get the exterior mirror heating working again. Worth every penny, though, as the issue with the cable and plug connection was sorted out neat and tidy. The mechanic did an ace job with the cable replacement and the oxidation cleanup. Haven't had any other heating snags since this fix. Your Panda should be good to go once this is taken care of!

Cheers! You gave me a fair idea of what to expect. 155 Euro, huh? A bit sharp, but hey, if it fixes the problem for good, then it's well worth it. Can't be driving a Panda with a faulty heater in the winter, can I now? I'll arrange a visit to a reputable mechanic this week. Really appreciate the tip about your mechanic ticking it off so cleanly. Helps with the nerves after that past disappointment I had, you know. Well, fingers crossed it's 'goodbye, kaput heated windows' real soon. Thanks again and safe driving out there!
