Hey there, Sounds like you've been through quite a bit with your Kia Sportage, bud. The thing is, I'm having a very similar issue with my own Retona - so your experience has given me some confidence about my hunch. Just out of curiosity, do you remember how much the whole ordeal set you back? Did any other issues arise after the sensor and heater were replaced? Knowing what potentially lies ahead is gonna help me prepare. Thanks a bunch!
Hey! You're spot on to prepare yourself for the costs and possible snags down the line - it's always better to be in the know, ain't it? When I took my Sportage into the shop, the cost for the mechanic to sort out that pesky lambda sensor heater came around to 375.00 €. Now, I know it sounds like a fair chunk of change, but it sure beats the alternative. Trust me. Since getting it fixed, I’ve hardly had any issues with the ol' girl. If you ask me, it was totally worth the price. Most importantly, no more drinking fuel like it's a free bar and no black clouds behind me every time I step on the accelerator. Just remember better to get it taken care of promptly. Don't wait around for other things to go haywire. Peace of mind costs a few bucks, but saves a lot of headaches down the line. Safe driving!
Cheers for the advice really appreciate you sharing your experience. 375.00 €, eh? That's a bit steep, but I reckon a happy, chugging along Retona without any environmental guilt sounds like a worthy investment. Peace of mind and safe driving indeed, can't put a price on that! Will pull my socks up and get the ol' girl to the mechanics ASAP. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a smooth sailing like yours post-fix. Take care, and safe driving to you too!
Hey! Sounds like you've nailed it, I reckon it could indeed be the lambda sensor heater game. Had a pretty similar drama with my 2004 Kia Sportage not long ago. Black smoke, drinking fuel, check engine light switched on and the whole shebang. All symptoms pointed towards the lambda sensor heater. Got my mechanic to take a good look at it and turns out, the sensor was failing and hence the heater too. The issue was not something to be taken lightly 'cause a faulty lambda sensor can mess up your fuel mixture, cause damage to the catalytic converter and considerably reduce the engine efficiency - so not great news for the environment or your mileage. In my case it was a simple fix, just the replacement of the sensor and heater, but the car needed to be looked over thoroughly, and the repair was done meticulously. Definitely something you’d want an experienced technician to fiddle with, even though it might set you back a bit. Best to get it sorted sooner rather than later, don’t wait on it. Best of luck!
